After 10 years as Women with Latitude’s Music Director, Cinzia Cursaro made the difficult decision to hand over the reins at the end of 2024 to give herself more work/life balance. Her joy of life, professionalism and energy will be sincerely missed.
Cinzia very kindly introduced the group to Sophie Zerner who has accepted the role of Music Director from the start of the 2025 year.
Music has always been a part of Sophie’s life, and her passion truly took shape when she began vocal lessons at the age of 15. This love for singing led her to complete an Honours degree in Jazz Voice, where she earned accolades such as DB Magazine’s Most Outstanding Undergraduate Jazz Voice Award and recognition as a Generations in Jazz Scholarship finalist.
While Sophie has enjoyed performing, teaching quickly became her greatest passion. She has extensive experience teaching both classroom and individual music students of all ages, from primary and high school students to university-level vocalists, where she worked as a vocal teacher at the Elder Conservatorium.
Choral music holds a special place in Sophie’s heart. She has sung with renowned ensembles such as The Adelaide Connection Choir, Gospo Choir, and most recently, the vocal trio Laurel. As a choir director, Sophie has worked with groups ranging from children to adults, finding joy in the soaring harmonies and the collective magic of choral singing.
With an incredibly varied musical taste spanning musical theatre, classical, and more, Sophie brings a spirit of curiosity and exploration to her work. She is looking forward to working with Women With Latitude on their journey as they continue to refine their skills, explore sound and style, and experience the joy of choral music together.
Sophie hopes to bring a deep understanding of the human voice, tone, and musicality, along with a willingness to explore diverse genres and techniques, creating an engaging and inspiring environment for the Women With Latitude choir.
